Bendigo TAFE's primary industries department offers a range of courses in agriculture, horticulture, conservation and land management, animal studies and applied science. These courses are delivered at the Charleston Road Campus in Bendigo. In studying agriculture, you will learn skills in livestock feeding and husbandry, fencing, machinery operation and maintenance, planning cropping programs as well as industry business skills. Other options include courses in wool classing and wool preparation. Our horticulture courses will teach you a wide range of knowledge and skills in areas such as garden bed construction, soils and plant nutrition, installation of retaining walls, costing and estimation, plant ID and recommendations. Our courses in conservation and land management have a strong industry focus encompassing a wide variety of specialties and techniques including those related to biodiversity, plant identification and health, water management, safe use of chemicals and environmental law. In studying animal studies or veterinary nursing you will gain knowledge and skills in areas such as animal care, hygiene and nutrition, clinic reception duties and conducting and assisting with surgery routines. In our laboratory operations courses you will learn how to process and interpret data, plan and conduct laboratory work, culture media, aseptic technique, sampling, testing and more.
